“A party, like a meeting for worship, is not operating on the level of reason…. It transcends logic. It slides willingly and consciously (if it is a good party) toward a celebration of the fact of being alive. The celebrants at a party share bread and wine and reach toward a communal touching, for a moment, of an existence that is not limited by the individual ego. The sound of a party is a sound of amity, of human beings who have become for a moment, and for nonaggressive reasons, something outside themselves.”

I have come to the conclusion that I, and those I spend my days with, don’t celebrate life enough.  We indulge ourselves, probably too much, but this isn’t the same thing.  I rarely pause to mark accomplishments, or feast with others to celebrate.  Even the religious practices of my family and many of our friends only take time to celebrate twice a year.  Most of us were not raised gathering and feasting to honor sacred occurrences.

In light of coming to this conclusion, a party must be thrown. It will be a party that gives all in attendance a chance to celebrate something that they have not stopped to take the time to celebrate.  There are no limitations to what can be celebrated, and if we stop and think for a few moments, anyone can come up with something, even if it is to celebrate ordinary miracles.
